We had a wonderful trip to Hilton Head this August and I’ll tell you right now that if you’ve been wanting to go, do! It all started with a plan to celebrate a milestone birthday for my mother-in-law which ended up bringing a lot of family members under one roof and was a ton of fun for all. We flew into Savannah, Georgia, and then drove 1 hour to the island where we stayed for 5 days.
The kids were absolutely in love with the stables and petting zoo, so we ended up there twice. They were able to go for pony rides, pet all of the horses, and feed the farm animals. When we went back the second time with Grandpa and Uncle Bill, I think they enjoyed the pony rides a little more because they knew what to expect. Unfortunately that second visit ended with an alpaca spitting on me (YUK)!
Near the stables there is also a little trolley that you can take to various spots, so we took a ride on that with the whole family and stopped at a nice bakery café for lunch. There are lots of cute restaurants, ice cream shops, and shopping areas to visit while you’re there. We didn’t do much shopping. I preferred to be with the kids whenever possible, and they just wanted to swim, swim, swim!
Our most memorable moments were probably spent on the beach. The first day we went, we were hit with a ton of rain. I grabbed Noah’s hand to go running into the ocean anyway. He was super excited and I wanted to keep that excitement up, despite the rain. I held him and we played in the waves – I didn’t even have time to take off my clothes that I was wearing over my swimsuit but it didn’t matter. It was his first time swimming in the ocean and I wasn’t about to miss it. We were both laughing and screaming, jumping in the waves and holding onto each other so tightly. This was a moment that didn’t get captured by a camera, a phone, or a drone, but I prefer it that way – it was forever etched on my heart.
The second time we went to the beach the weather was lovely. Grandpa joined the four of us and we ended up getting both kids into the ocean with us for a “swim”, along with some fun in the sand afterwards. All-in-all there was a lot of family time, lots of good food, and lots of simple entertainment that made an impact on us all.
I hope you enjoy these photos from our little family vacation!
