How to improve sleep for the whole family

This post was sponsored by Endy.

If you’re following me on Instagram you’ll know that I partnered with Endy back in July to give our honest review of their Canadian-made mattresses. Trey and I have had our King-sized Endy mattress for over a year now and we have loved it so much. It has helped with my back pain, and helped us to have deeper, more comfortable sleeps. The mattress is firm enough without being hard and their proprietary foam has open air cell technology which is breathable and remains cool throughout the night.

Our little Georgia is definitely the worst sleeper in our family, so although we have been loving our Endy mattress, when we partnered up a few months ago, we decided that Gigi should get her own Endy, which we hoped would help her sleep better, too. Find out what we think at the end of this post! Now, here are my tips for improving sleep for the whole family:

  1. Go to bed earlier

Whether you are already getting good quality sleep or not, you’re probably not getting enough of it. If you can get to bed earlier (even by 30 minutes or an hour), you’ll clock just that extra little bit that might give you a boost for the following day. We all tend to try to do “just one more thing” before bed (I know I do!), to knock down the to-do list, but I would say if you can leave anything that isn’t urgent for now, that extra bit of sleep will make a huge difference. The same tip goes for the kids, too. Early bedtimes are crucial for kids, especially those in school, so that they log enough sleep hours to help their sweet little brains function and develop. School-aged kids really struggle with new routines and long days, so getting them to bed early can really help!

2. Put away the electronics

…she says, as she writes a blog post on her computer (haha). We have all heard that blue light affects our sleep. We’ve been told a million times to put away the phone before bed. We know this, but we all have trouble doing it. I recommend using paper and pen to make a list and do a “brain dump” of anything that’s been bothering you or you want to remember for the next day. This helps me relax when I don’t have to keep all of those thoughts in my head and I know it’s written down for tomorrow. Other options? Read a book, listen to some calming music, or give yourself a moment of quiet reflection before falling asleep. If you must work at night, use blue light blocking glasses (I love mine!), and shut it down at least 30 minutes before your head hits the pillow.

3. Cut the sugar!

This is important for us all, but I put special emphasis on this one for the kids. A healthy dinner or bedtime snack will help your kids have a good sleep. If you’ve seen the alternative (think: birthday party kid, post-cake and loot bag treats – yikes!), you’ll know what I mean. My kids love to have dessert, so we often offer yogurt or a small bowl of cereal in the evening as opposed to cookies and cakes.

4. Exercise

Working out not only keeps your mind clear and your body healthy, but it will help you sleep better at night. The same goes for your children. If you don’t have the time to fit in a long workout every day, take a quick walk after dinner and get some fresh air. The kids and I do yoga every night in Georgia’s room before bed. We have these cute Yoga books for kids and they absolutely love it.

5. Get yourself a good quality mattress, sheets, and pillows!

This is where Endy comes in. With a newborn, a toddler who has always been a horrible sleeper, and a 5-year old who is just starting to sleep through the night, we are all looking for ways to improve our sleep. Since Georgia’s Endy mattress has arrived, she has had more nights sleeping all the way through without wake-ups than ever before.

She comments on how comfortable her bed is, and even Noah has caught on that his bed isn’t quite up to par (I think we are going to have to get him one next).

I love that Endy is Canadian-made and ships directly to your house with free shipping. The mattress was so easy to set up.

The pillows we received are my favourite pillows I have EVER slept on. The cover is 100% cotton and machine washable with a hypoallergenic microfibre fill that feels just like down. The washability is a key factor for me, as I like to clean the bedding often. The inner filling of the Endy pillow is a breathable and supportive bamboo charcoal memory foam. What I love about these pillows is you can fully customize it to be as firm or thin as you’d like and you don’t lose the softness of that outer layer. I love a flat pillow for sleeping on my stomach but its still fluffy and supportive!

Our Endy sheets are so super soft and light feeling. They’re made from 480 thread count, 100% sateen weave cotton. They feel silky on your skin, while still being breathable. Endy has thought of everything, too – because they’ve lined up the logo on the sheets with the logo on the mattress, which makes them so easy to put on!

In our first 100 nights, we are all sleeping as well as can be expected. I’m still feeding baby Sloane a few times per night, but between feeds I’m sleeping so well. It certainly wasn’t this way with the first two babies! My back pain is so much better and Gigi is waking us up so much less than before. Basically she only gets up if she has to use the washroom and she happily goes back to her comfy bed afterwards. It is definitely taking an uphill turn and we are really enjoying our Endy beds. I honestly don’t think I could go back to our old bed or pillows.
