As I mentioned in my post about our favourite Halloween books, we are a little bit crazy for holidays in our house. It all started with me (it came from my side of the family for sure), but it has definitely rubbed off on my husband and kids. We are always getting excited for the next upcoming holiday or event, planning seasonal activities, and decorating to get into the spirit.
I have a bit of a dilemma with fall and Halloween decor because I hate the colour orange. I painted a bunch of craft pumpkins from Michaels a couple of years ago to match our décor and its easy these days to find ghost pumpkins!
I don’t go over the top for Halloween (just wait for Christmas!), but we do like to bring in little things here and there. We have done a little more in the past few years because my kids are so into owls, skeletons, ghosts and spiders. I don’t think there will be a day when we scatter zombies all over the front lawn, but never say never!
I like to find things at the dollar store or on sale at Michaels, rather than from an expensive party store or Halloween specialty shop. My favourite decorating tricks for Halloween are: spider webs, pumpkins EVERYWHERE, and using things in a quirky way. Hang a bat from a pretty chandelier or stick a spider in a floral arrangement. Arrange seasonal books on display, and get some of those tacky little window clings (they’re easy to put away when guests come by but they’ll entertain your kids for hours for only $1)!
There’s still over a week until Halloween so get out and find some fun accessories! Just about everything is on sale now, so it is the perfect time to stock up.
I’ll keep it short, here are some of the photos of Halloween at the Squish & Sprout home.
