I’d heard of “Golden Milk” or “Turmeric Tea” many times but had never tried it – WHY, oh why, did I wait so long?? My lovely sister came over to spend some time together and we made this beautiful, flavourful hot drink which quickly became a favourite for us both.
What is it?
Golden Milk tea has health benefits and healing properties. You might recognize the bright yellow colour of turmeric, or the flavour from Indian and Asian foods. This tea is full of warming spices and has such a unique, intense flavour.
Turmeric supports digestion, immune function and the liver, and is a natural antioxidant. Ginger is always great for fighting off illness and helping with digestion. Using a pinch of pepper and some kind of fat will help aid with absorption, and you can adjust the other spices or add/subtract/change the sweetener to your liking.
I hope you enjoy this beautiful tea as much as we did. I think it is going to be my new fall/winter staple!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups of milk (we used a combination of coconut and almond, but you can use any milk that you like)
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- pinch of black pepper
- a small piece of fresh, peeled ginger (about 2″)
- 1 tsp raw honey or maple syrup (or agave), to taste
Instructions:
- Chop the ginger into a few smaller chunks
- Add all ingredients to a pot and warm for 3-5 minutes on low-medium heat
- The milk should be hot but not boiling
- Strain and drink!
Tips:
- Be careful not to spill on anything or use your finest china, as the turmeric can stain! You’ll want to wash everything out right away (just do it while the tea cools to a drinkable temperature)
Enjoy! Tag me on Instagram if you make it and let me know what you think!
