Closet Makeover with Organizing Made Simple

I was so fortunate to collaborate on this master closet reorganization project with Cassandra from Organizing Made Simple. Although I’m naturally very organized, my closet was always the last to get attention. As Moms, we tend to put ourselves at the bottom of the list (we shouldn’t!… but we do), and I tried my best to stay on top of my closet but it really needed to be decluttered.

Sometimes a closet project can feel overwhelming but having Cassandra there to take everything out, give me guidelines for ditching things I no longer wear, and then put things back in an organized (and beautiful) – but mostly FUNCTIONAL fashion was just what I needed.

Here are a few tips for keeping your closet organized that Cassandra taught me:

  • Donate, purge, and sell things you haven’t worn in 6+ months
    • For me, this part was relatively easy. Having a large closet has allowed me to hang onto things just because I have the space, so it was overcrowded. I say it was easy, only because I was ruthless in donating and getting rid of clothing, handbags, excess gym bags and tons of “clubbing” high heels that I simply won’t wear anymore.
  • Get matching hangers if you can, and group like hangers together
    • You don’t have to purchase all new hangers! I had MANY hangers that matched, but not all. So I purchased some new, and used the others together in various sections, giving it a cohesive look. Over time I may replace the rest of the hangers, but this isn’t something you have to invest in right off the bat
  • Organize your clothing into sections of like items and then sub-categorize either by TYPE (short sleeve, long sleeve for example), or by colour
    • We decided to organize by colour for my closet because I prefer the visual order and look
  • Odds and ends
    • I keep a lot of my photography equipment, tripods, ring lights, etc. in my closet. I also have yoga mats for Gigi and I, as well as a small dresser to organize my essential oils business. Cassandra did an amazing job of finding a home for each of these that didn’t interfere with the clothing and setting it up to make sense for me.

On to the photos! I think you’ll LOVE these before and after photos!

Here is the before….

I thought it would be cool to show a few of the before and after photos next to each other. Can’t believe this change!
