Third Trimester Recap

I can’t believe I am now almost 36 weeks pregnant! Of course, at the end of the road, I feel like lots of Mamas-to-be declare how quickly things are going, but I have to admit that there was a time there when I wasn’t having the best time. That first 18 weeks were rough!

Its been a busy few months with my Dad’s birthday, Trey’s birthday, Mother’s Day, and lots of events to attend for work. We’ve had fun!

Anyway, aside from lots of aches and pains, I’m feeling pretty good. I’ve been in super nesting mode, as usual, organizing rooms in the house one by one, knocking off my enormous to-do lists, and so on. I waddle like a professional, because my round ligament pain is pretty awful. My back pain and heartburn hasn’t been quite as bad these past few weeks, thank goodness! I’d say that generally I am uncomfortable, but happy!

Baby Squirt is doing so well. At week 32 I was measuring about 1cm small. For those who don’t know, your belly/uterus is supposed to be the same number of centimetres from the top of your uterus to your pubic bone as the number of weeks pregnant you are (as a rule, but of course there is a little leeway). By week 34 I was 2cm smaller than the guidelines and hadn’t gained any weight in almost 4 weeks, so I was sent for an additional ultrasound to check on baby’s overall health and size.

They were able to get me in within 24 hours at the hospital and I was told that if the ultrasound technician sent me home then there was nothing to be worried about. If they sent me up to labour and delivery it wouldn’t necessarily mean that something was wrong, only that they’d want to have the scans checked by an obstetrician. I was sent right home without having to go to L&D and the ultrasound tech told me everything was fine. I was also told that baby was super active.

My OB wanted to see me to follow up on the results of those scans earlier this week. The first thing she said was “I don’t know where you hide all of these big babies but your baby is in the 93rd percentile for size!” – so, as expected, we’ve got another chunker on our hands. They estimated baby’s weight to be between 6lbs 2oz and 7lbs 4 oz already (with several weeks left to grow).

Squirt is head down and low. The doctor said she has almost never seen a baby as active as ours – one that just never stops moving, practising breathing, etc. The heart rate is strong and reactive to all movements. I’ve been getting lots of Braxton Hicks. Lots of them are painful like period cramps, rather than just tightening. Nothing worsening or consistent, but my OB definitely thinks I am not going to make it to our current scheduled c-section date. She says baby is big, healthy, and ready to go. She wants to push the scheduled date up by about 5 days.

We have decided to at least find out what the hospital’s availability is and what the options are before we decide. My parents will be on a European river cruise, so that will not be ideal (for them or for us)! Even if we push the date up by a day they’ll miss the birth – but the priority for us is a) healthy baby and b) to have a successful recovery, preferably better than my first two experiences. Since I laboured with both Noah and Georgia, my recovery was difficult post-surgery. My doctor is keeping that in mind and would like for me to be scheduled. Of course baby can come at any time, we are just trying to increase the chances of not going into labour prior to the scheduled date and time.

Anyway, that’s about it for my updates for now! We are possibly only 2.5 weeks away from meeting this little miracle rainbow baby and we couldn’t be more excited. Noah and Gigi are going to be so amazing with this baby! We can’t wait to see their reactions.
