Our Garage Makeover with Mint Garage

This was a paid partnership with Mint Garage Inc. but all thoughts and opinions are my own

I had the pleasure of working with Mint Garage recently to give our single car garage a complete overhaul. Our garage stores a lot, and we don’t even park our car in there. It has been a bit of a staging zone in our home. It holds items on their way out to be donated, storage bins of seasonal items, all of the gardening tools and all of the kids’ outdoor stuff/bikes. On top of that, I do a lot of my DIYs out there (think: spray paint) and my husband does some wood-working as well.

Basically our garage had a ton of uses but was of NO use to us. Nothing was organized or had a dedicated place. We could barely see the floor some days!

In these “before” photos it was particularly bad. Sloane had just turned 2, we were selling off and donating all of our baby items and clothing, including some extra strollers. We had also just organized our basement so it was a staging area for donations of all types. We were so frustrated. We couldn’t really use the garage for anything, but we needed it for so much.

Enter: Mint Garage. First, they installed the slat wall in light grey. This wall is incredible because it is basically maintenance-free. When it gets dusty you can wipe it down but it says clean and really gives the garage an ‘indoor’ feeling. It cleans it up SO much. I was so impressed with the installation of the slat wall. They measure and cut on-site, trim every edge and around every outlet/corner. It is such a professional look, and only took about 1.5 days to complete.

Next, Mint Garage installed a tiled floor over our DIY epoxy job which elevated the cleanliness and overall look by a ton! Dirt and dust falls between the cracks and makes its way out of the garage. You can use a blower or even vacuum stubborn bits, but a simple hose-down works well, too! It is so easy to keep clean.

Lastly, they brought in all of the slat wall accessories that clip right into the slat wall. This makes the entire garage fully customizable and what really takes it to the next level. Their accessory selection is enormous! You can get tons of different styles of hooks for all of your gardening tools, scooters, brooms, not to mention shelves, baskets, specialized accessories for a ladder or a book specifically designed for bikes.

This step was key as it took EVERYTHING off the floor and up onto the walls. We created zones: “kids”, “gardening”, “projects”, “bikes”, “entry”.

At the entrance to the garage (closest to the driveway) on one side we placed the kids’ scooters and outdoor toys (balls, sidewalk chalk, bubbles) low and within their reach. On the other we have the garden hose and gardening accessories since that is closest to the outside.

All bikes are hung at the back towards the house so that they don’t stick out into the main square footage of the garage where we have walking access. On either side, closer to the house, we have tools (which we usually use inside the house, so this was easy access), spray paint for projects, a shelf for muddy shoes/boots, and a shelf for putting down your keys/masks, right next to a garbage bin and some extra dog food.

All-in-all, we couldn’t have been happier with how it turned out. Check out these after photos to see just what a difference they made!
